Dr. Pramod Gopinath is the immediate past Director of International School of Photonics. He joined the School as a Professor in March 2016 and was a faculty member at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Valiamala, Thiruvananthapuram, from 2007 to 2016. He has an M.Sc. in Physics – Materials Science from Mahatma Gandhi University and was awarded Ph.D. degree under the Faculty of Technology, Cochin University of Science and Technology. He was a Visiting Professor at University of Gothenburg, Sweden. His areas of interest are Emission Spectroscopy of Laser Produced Plasma, Nonlinear Optics, Nanophotonics and Magnetoplasmonics. He has successfully supervised/co-supervised 6 research students for their Ph.D. degree and is currently supervising 8 students for their Ph.D. degree and has mentored 2 Post Doctoral Fellows and 1 Scientist under DST-WOS(A) Scheme. He has more than 50 publications in reputed international journals and more than 100 in conferences/symposia. He is a member of the Academic Council and Faculty of Technology of CUSAT and also a Member of Board of Studies in Physics of Sacred Heart College, Thevara, St Teresa’s College, Ernakulam, St. Berchmans College, Changanassery, Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology, Kochi. He is the member of the Editorial Board of Frontiers as a Review Editor for Frontiers in Chemistry – Nanoscience and Frontiers in Photonics – Nonlinear Optics and Reviewer for many journals.
He is a Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), UK, Kerala Academy of Sciences (FAS) and Life Fellow of Optical Society of India. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and Chair of IEEE Photonics Society Kerala Section Chapter. He is also an Executive Council member of Kerala Academy of Sciences (2023, 2024), Plasma Science Society of India(2024-25), Optical Society of India(2024-25) and IEEE Kerala Section (2023, 2024). He is a member of Optica (Formerly Optical Society of America) and a Life Member of Indian Physics Association, Indian Laser Association, Indian Science Congress Association and Photonics Society of India.
