Dr. Mohamed Ameen joined the International School of Photonics as Assistant Professor in 2021. He obtained a PhD from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), San Sebastian, Spain in 2015 for the studies on the optical response of different materials with an aim of optimising them for controlling light-matter interaction at nanoscale. During this period Ameen worked at Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) and at the Center for Materials Physics (CFM) at San Sebastian, Spain. After obtaining PhD, Ameen worked as Assistant Professor at the department of Physics, SRM University, Kattankulathur, Chennai.

Ameen’s research interests include theoretical study and numerical modelling of the optical response of nanostructures and light-matter interaction at nanoscale. Ameen studies the response of metallic materials, two-dimensional materials and phononic materials with an aim of optimising nanoantennas made of them for field enhanced spectroscopy and sensing applications. Note: Looking for students interested in developing a PhD in the above mentioned topics, that involve theoretical description of the response of optical systems and computational studies of systems using numerical computational tools based on finite element and finite difference methods.

Motivated master students who are keen on pursuing master’s thesis or summer projects are encouraged to submit their applications. Basic knowledge in Matlab/Mathematica is desirable.
